    Compensation & Benefits:

    Position Overview:


    Work for an organization that sees patients in their homes, assisted-living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and in-patient unit. Qualified Physician will provide medical direction, leadership, and clinical support for our dedicated hospice team. Physician must have knowledge and experience in pain and symptom management, a desire to be a member of an interdisciplinary group, and be interested in providing holistic care.




    1. Confirm patient eligibility for hospice services in accordance with hospice program policy. 
    2. Consult with physicians about potential hospice patients as indicated.
    3. Confirm the statement of prognosis for each patient admitted to Casa de la Luz Hospice. 
    4. Serve as consultant with patient’s primary physician as requested. 
    5. Assist in developing plan of care for each patient/family. 
    6. Consult with attending physician and hospice staff as requested so that pain and symptom management for patients is effectively and expeditiously accomplished.
    7. Coordinate efforts with attending physician to provide medical care if he/she unable/unavailable. 
    8. Provide face to face and other patient visits as required and/or requested by the IDT.
    9. Consult with team members on an on-call basis for medical issues relating to the patient/family plan of care.
    10. Provide for twenty-four-hour availability of physician coverage in accordance with hospice program policy.
    11. Offer advice and information to staff and referring physicians on medical interventions consistent with hospice philosophy and plan of care. 
    12. Serve as medical liaison with physicians in community and promote referrals. 
    13. Participate in patient conference with emphasis on the medical management of patients’ plans of care. 
    14. Present or arrange for orientation and educational presentations for interdisciplinary team members involved in patient care. 
    15. Participate in community programs for the purpose of providing education and information to members of the medical community. 
    16. Other assignments as may be appropriate.


    1. Licensed under the provisions of the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners or the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association.
    2. Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine is preferred.
    3. Experience in the care of terminally ill patients; hospice and palliative care experience is a preferred.
    4. Demonstrated knowledge and well developed skills in:
      • Medicine, oncology, pharmacology
      • Pain and symptom control
      • Psychology of loss
    5. Demonstrated understanding and acceptance of hospice principles of care.
    6. Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and collaboration.
